It occurs in Korea and across tropical and subtropical Asia to central China, inhabiting open fields, roadsides, lawns, wastelands and littoral forests. ¹

Korea: POWO/WCVP는 이 분류군의 자생 범위에 한국을 포함한다. ²
Outside Korea: 열대·아열대 아시아에서 중국 중부까지 자생하며 사모아에는 도입된 것으로 처리된다. ²
Habitat: 중국 식물지에서는 황무지, 길가, 잔디밭, 개방된 들과 해안림의 해수면 부근부터 해발 1,500m까지 자라는 것으로 기재한다. ¹
■ 비교
Justicia diffusa와 비교하면 조밀하고 원통형이며 털이 많은 이삭꽃차례를 갖는 점이 특징이다. ³
Justicia hayatae와 비교하면 포엽이 난형에서 타원상 피침형이고 너비 0.6–1.3mm로 좁으며 대체로 기부 부근이 가장 넓다. ³
